In 2011 one of my favourite films ever was released. At the time I didn’t know it, but six years on and hundreds of films later I still find it hard to find a film with such sublime cinematography, flawless acting, and arguably impeccable soundtrack as Drive. So when I make the comparison between Space Above‘s latest video ‘Fall Through’ and it’s worthiness of its place in the Drive Soundtrack, I really am giving it the highest praise.
The Indie Electronic trio dropped their latest video at the end of last week for the track ‘Fall Through‘. Premiering it on Relix, the video itself is as narrative as the song, set on what looks like planet earth it follows the experiences of three supernatural people whose lives are for some reason or another connected. Directed by Jordan Blady who has worked alongside Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bayonne and Strange Babes, he explains the video is ‘concerned with relationships between the inhabitants of an alien world where the surroundings and denizens look completely familiar to us. Behaviours such as fear, relief and wonderment are experienced by the otherwise emotionless characters as they endure a crisis.”
Fronted by The Naked and Famous producer and keyboardist Aaron Short, Space Above explores the darker side of electronica adorned with atmospheric melodies and other worldly synths. With The Naked and Famous unsure of what to do next, Short joined forced with fellow kiwis Sam McCarthy (BOYBOY) and Maddie North (So Below) in the quest to explore a moody 80’s Synthwave sound.
The New Zealand trio also announced the release of their debut full length album ‘Still‘ released on 17th February 2017.
